Schuyler County residents in the Class of 2021 and graduating seniors from Bradford, Odessa-Montour, and Watkins Glen Central Schools are invited to apply for the Debra Harrington Scholarship. The scholarship is to be used toward higher learning expenses. One scholarship will be awarded, and the winner will be announced at the winner's graduation ceremony. The prize will be awarded after the winner has completed the first semester of college, earning a 3.0 GPA or higher, as indicated by a transcript forwarded to the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce.

Applications must be received by April 30, 2021. To be considered, students must complete a 1,000- to 2,000-word essay that identifies an opportunity to improve the quality of life for Schuyler County residents. The essay should include recommendations to accomplish the proposed opportunity.  After considering the submissions, three finalists will be invited to present their essays to the Watkins Glen Chamber of Commerce's Business and Education Committee. Important note: applications and/or essays with grammatical errors will not be considered.

Debra Harrington was a mom, a wife, a daughter, a friend, and a passionate advocate for leadership development and enhanced educational programs for students. Deb was a member of the Chamber's Business and Education Committee. She was a member of the teams that founded the iLead Class at the Watkins Glen High School and the SPARK! Regional Leadership Summit. She was a huge supporter and a beloved volunteer for the Annual Business Expo. She was a member of the Board of Directors. She also served on the Board of Education at the Odessa-Montour Central School District. Through all of these commitments, Deb made it abundantly clear that her involvement with high school was her primary passion. Because of her involvement, and as a way to keep Deb, her memory, and her passion alive, we are honored to present the Debra Harrington Scholarship.
