Please join the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce for the grand opening of Tame the Mane, a hair salon in Watkins Glen. The event is scheduled for June 30, 2021, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., at 109 West Fourth Street, Watkins Glen, N.Y. Light refreshments will be available and Seneca Lodge Brewing will be on tap with a selection of locally made brews.

"Good hair days, bad hair days ... hair styles can shape the day for many people," said Watkins Glen Chamber Executive Director Michael Hardy. "Our village -- and Schuyler County -- are fortunate to have the expertise and passion of professionals like Katrina. She has practiced her craft for more than a decade and clearly brings her love of the industry to her work."

As a teen, owner Katrina Benedict knew she wanted to pursue a career that tapped her creative energies. After considering detailing Mac trucks, she chose cosmetology. Today, she brings 15 years’ experience to the salon, including time as a beautician in Elmira Heights and Ithaca before renting stall at the former Frenchies. In June, Benedict took the plunge and opened her own salon – Tame the Mane – at the former Frenchie’s location.

“Styling hair is an opportunity to make small changes in a world that needs small changes,” said Benedict. “My work helps people take control of at least one aspect of their life. The right hair style makes people happy and boosts confidence; I can help with that.”
